So Long and Good Bye...

Thank to all for reading my Blogs, sorry for the grammar mistakes, I'm not an English Major.
I'll try to post every two weeks or so about school and life and everything else.

Good Bye,

I leave you With one of my Favorite Songs, "Don't Stop Believing" that we will make a difference in our students life and our world

Final Blog for EDM 310... ;)

blogs, wikis, presentations, Google Docs,

Google spreadsheets, Picasa, podcasts, videocasts, YouTube, movie making, posts you read,

PLNs, Twitter, other teachers and students outside of our region, comments4kids, comments4classmates, comments4teachers, iTunes, iTunesU

Ok Here I go!

1. The most useful tool(s) that I think will be: Google Doc's, PLN, Youtube, iTunes and iTunesU, Podcast and Videocast will be useful somehow I just have to figure out How am I going to use them in my Classroom? All of these tools we learned will be useful in the "modern age". Google Doc's will be useful for sharing and creating forums, quizzes, presentations, and many other things, Skype will be useful for contacting others and file sharing and working on projects YouTube, iTunes, and iTuneU will be useful for sharing my creations and my students creations, show examples of things, and much more.

2. Yes, there are things would of like to learn. Smartboard, this tool is going into every classroom, This is what school can afford. Smartboards can't grow leg and walk out of the room like an iPad can or a labtop. So maybe we need to spend more time learning how to work and create useful tools on the smartboard software, instead of creating presentations on useful tool that MAY be used in the classroom, instead we need to learn and create a presentation on tools that are BEING used in the classroom.

3. I will forget nothing or try not to forget because it maybe useful down the road but not today.

4. Nothing Excited me, but I was glade to understand how to use and learn how they are being used in class around the world.

5. Nothing was challenging to say. Everything was explain well enough to understand how to work it or create it.

6. Yes, because I already complete the assignment and understood the process of creating to completing the task.

7. Yes, go into the schools or contact the technology department of Mobile and Baldwin Counties and ask what types of Technology is being used in and outside the classroom and schools, and How can I prepare the "Future Teacher" to use this technology?

8. I think I am. If you were to give me assignment and the proper amount of time I could complete the assignment to above and beyond Standards.

9. I will go to workshops, keep up with the new technology, and stay in touch with my classmate from EDM 310 using the Alumni Blog.

Thank You, Dr. Strange for showing us this awesome technology.

See, Ya around.

What Have I Learned...

Well, at first I really did want to be in this class because while doing observation hours for other class they do not use the technology we learned in this class. So how does this help me? I'm just going to be another clueless teacher on the first day of school bugging the technology person "How do I work this?"I did however enjoyed learning about Google Doc's, Skype , and many other "useful" classroom tools. By far Google Doc's has been the most useful tool to me as a student this semester of college and will always be a useful tool of mine.

Post to Blogs...

Wow! What great videos. It's good for students and teachers to post to blogs. One reason is so parents can see the work that their kids is doing, and any upcoming projects or field trips. The second reason is for parents can be active in the kids learning and and see the progress that their child is making in school. Last, is so the parent can contact the teacher in another way. Blogging and post students work to blog gives the student some confidence in the school work when other people are commenting on there work. This is just a great tool for all teachers.

April 4th Bolg

Well, these blogs are really good tools for teaching and learning. I liked Kaia's Blog and her photos, it so cool to see young children using all the wonderful technology and showing the world that anyone can use technology. I thinks good to see parents encouraging there kids to go outside and do something, and Kaia did something pretty cool. Mr. C's Blog is always fun to play around with and watch the videos he puts on his blog. I check Mr. C blog about once a week. This is want my blog to look like, it's very helpful in many ways.

An Open Letter To Educators...

I too feel that education as a whole needs to be reconstructed, we are still using learning style from before I was born. Times have change and the students are learning in new ways, and as teachers we need to understand that and try to teach the way the students learn. Everything is changing; the way they work and do business. Our world is suffering, do to the amount of uneducated people in the world, for example IBM who just moved a plant out of the US because of the uneducated work force. We as teacher and future teachers need to educate so the student will learn the proper tool so they can be successful people in the work force. The blog and video have shown me the value of a good education, and how our children need to be taught the way they can learn, but the children need to have the will to learn. If the children have the will to learn and the teacher incorporate a new learning style the workforce will begin to improve.

ALEX...

ALEX, Alabama Learning Exchange, this is a great website for teachers. It give state standards for each grade and explains each standards, also it gives the standards for each subject. This will be help when writing lesson and unit plans, because you must state each standard that you will be using on each lesson plan.
I've used this website a bunch in other classes for writing lesson and unit plans. I also use to look up lesson plans for my PE class and see what and how they are presenting their lesson to the students. It has helpful websites for teachers, it also has podcast. Its a great website to join and keep bookmarked.

Last Lecture...

Wow!! What a great video. First of all, if I had 3 to 6 months live, I would be giving lecture. I would probably be laying in bed thinking about all the stuff I didn't do. I love the use of pictures in his presentation. This made the presentation easier to follow. I also enjoyed the mottos, he said throughout the the presentation. Being an athlete, I've heard a ton of mottos or life lesson throughout the sport career, today i try to incorporate these sayings in my life.
In this presentation, I like the use of subtitles and pictures throughout. I would love to be in Mr. Pausch's Class, he is very excited about teaching people, he keeps people attention durning is presentation. He has a lot of good stories about life in general. He's just a funny person, he keeps you drawn in the whole time.
I bet, when he worked as an imagineer, he found many useful thing and way for people to learn. One for example is the headset that he used for his games. Some how get that technology for student to block out all outside distractions. I hope most of my childhood dreams come true, like most of Mr. Pausch did. He had some cool jobs throughout his life. I really enjoy disney quest, its a 5 story arcade, with each floor have different styles of games. I would love to have a job were I could create a place like that.
Its so cool seeing what you have started being used all over the world. So I now see how teacher think, when something is so good the teacher just say "guy you can do better". Overall, I enjoy going above and beyond what was ask of me, just like what Mr. Pausch ask of his students. I enjoyed this video, and all the cool things I saw and learned. How cool would this be if we could create a classroom like this were students could interact with other student from different countries.

Does South Alabama have a high technology class?

Skype...

The past few weeks I have used Skype as a way of contacting Jackie Gorski, my Podcast Project partner. I also use Skype to talk to my sister and niece who live in Atlanta, Ga. For my project Skype was very useful for contacting Jackie, and talking about our project, and the direction we wanted to go with the project. Skype was a great tool because it was hard to find time for Jackie and I to meet up and work on the project, so most of our work was done via Skype, Google Docs, and Email. We meet on Sunday and put the finale project together. So, Skype was a big help for us.

Archive.org

Archive. org is a website that allows you to upload big files(Podcast, Videos and anything over 10 minutes) to the website. It's like youtube, but archive allows you to upload larger files. All you do, is create a profile just like any other website that allows you to share files, after you have created a profile, then upload you file. After its uploaded, your file now has a url, this allows you to a hyper link or the link itself in you blog or website so other can listen or view the podcast or video. If you plan to upload it to iTunes you must have a url. Its really simple to upload to iTunes, just go to the iTunes store, click on the Podcast tab, then on the right side of the podcast page click Submit Podcast (may take 24 hours to view on iTunes). If you have any questions please feel free to contact me( to do this look on the right hand side of my blog under Contact Me). I hope this information is helpful.

My PLN at Work

As Jackie Gorski and I worked on our Podcast Project, we've met a few new people, Mike Fletcher, a Math Teacher a Davidson High School, and Eric Langhorst, a History teacher who use podcast in his classroom. We found Mr. Langhorst from Mr. Chamberlain. We emailed Mr. C, asking him a few question about Podcast, he answered them, then replied to us, giving us Mr. Langhorst's blog and email. Mr. Langhorst has been very helpful during this whole process, I have learn a lot from about Podcast.

Chech Out http://mathisgorski.blogspot.com for information on the process and information about Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Langhorst and Mr. Chamberlain. Also this blog has information about " Can Podcast be Useful in the Classroom?"

Week 7 Post

How We Dream
I really enjoyed these two videos. It is so convenient for us as students to do research without stepping a foot in the library. I do not have time to go spend hours in the library for one research paper or project, so having these resources on the internet makes project easier. I agree with what he said throughout the video about the changing world, and the necessity of having people on board.
In part two of his video podcast he talked about the ways that he has begun to see the media of the world change from paper documents to wed documents. He was extremely correct when he said that the humanities, the science, and the technology people have to work together in order to make the world not only more technologically advanced but "green" in the process.
I think that I am prepared to handle the technology in my classroom. Although I feel like I know all of the technology that is currently in the classroom, I think that I will constantly have to be updating my knowledge of technology. Technology is going to continue to change forever, and in order to continue to be up-to-date with it in the classroom, teachers will have to continue to learn new things about technology.

The Networked Student
This was a very interesting video concerning student networking. It is amazing how many ways there are to learn and make connections other than in the classroom with a teacher lecturing all day. I think that I would find a class more interesting if there was a broader selection of ways I could learn. I think that although there are so many more ways to learn now, I think that a teacher is definitely necessary in the classroom. There needs to be a person in charge of the classroom supervising the students in their learning.
I think that Ms. Drexler will be successful in her class if she decides to try it in the fall. I am ready to be in a classroom and to be teaching students. I am also ready to be in a classroom that is technology friendly, and that my students can learn in. I think that it is a cool idea to have networked students, however it would take some training as a teacher, and some practice in order to learn how to teacher students in this way.
Now that the world is becoming so intertwined with technology, it is so necessary to embrace that technology, and to use it to the fullest. I know that my students will have a technologically inclined classroom and that I will do my best to teach them in a successful way. With the use of so much technology and so many sources I may eventually be able to offer a networked students class as well. I think that students would take well to the idea, as long as I know how to teach them.

Video by Michael Wesch
I listened and watched this video and I had no idea what it was talking about. I tried to pay attention, and I thought I did but at the end of the video I had no idea what I had just watched.

For my Personal Learning Network(PLN), I have a blog, twitter, delicious, and Facebook. I respond to most comments on my blogs, and post on others blogs, I just started using twitter, and I'm learning how to use twitter. I using delicious to follow a few other people and sites for my education needs. Last, I use facebook to contact the teachers I have met in the schools that I have work at; substitution and observation.

Week 6 Post

Dr. Alice Christie Website
I viewed her digital media part of the website, it was very useful for teachers and students who are trying to use a movie maker or imovie for a project. There are many helpful resources for teacher trying to find or examples for projects. She give advice on digital cameras; what kind to buy, tips for taking pictures, and general tips and links for digital photography. Dr. Christie also has link for website about digital media, and projects ideas.
I think this is a great way to help students be creative. I love photography it is a good way to express your creative side. I think letting students use technology like digital media will helps students be more creative.
Here is her link: http://www.alicechristie.org/

iTunes U
itunes U is a new part of itunes the help educators find educational tools for the classroom. It has games, music, videos, and podcast. All these are helpful for teachers in many ways, like giving games for pre-school age and low school kids. Teachers can upload podcast, videocast, games that might help the student understand the lesson. Upper level teacher can add class lectures, notes and audio recording of the class to itunes for students who missed class.
This new technology is helpful for students who do not learn well by sitting in lecture all day or miss a day due to an illness. This could allow some college to make all or most of the course online and allow they to pre-record the lecture let the students listen throughout the semester, this could cut cost for students and universities. iTunes U is changing the way we learn and teach.

iPods
In this article on this website, http://bit.ly/bmQXGL (http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/news/2004/07/64282) ,Duke University has given every freshmen (1,650) ipods to promote technology at the university. Duke is preloading freshmen orientation information, an academic calendar, and the fight song. Duke students will be able to download course content, lecture, and foreign language lesson.
Duke will do the project for a year, then see what affect it has had one the freshmen and the their academic. Some other people say that the ipods are upload with the students classes, and show how to get using the map feature on the ipods. I wish South Alabama would consider using this technology. If they want us to be able to use this technology in our classroom, they should prepare us, for what they are using and maybe considering using the the schools. I can only hope that South Alabama would think about using this type technology in the classroom to prepare us for when we start teaching.

Week 5 Post

Resonse to: NPR New Blog and WIRED
When Virgil Griffith came up with the WikiScanner that is able to trace and find out the people who edit information on Wikipedia, there was a lot revealed about the people that edit information on Wikipedia. People are taking advantage of the capabilities given to them by the Wikipedia encyclopedia. Many companies, politicians, corporations and just regular people are often times submitting false information, or deleting offensive information about themselves. Now because of the WikiScanner, they are able to be traced bak to the computer that the information was edited on and identified, in hopes that people will be more reluctant to change or submit falsified information. I think that it is wrong of people, businesses and politicians to change demeaning information, or to put in false information. I believe that the WikiScanner is going to make the people think before they just submit what ever information they want, because once the public can see it traced back to them, it will create a problem.

Response to: "What I've Learned This Year" by Mr. McClung
In Mr.McClung's first year of teaching he learned many things. One of the most important things that he learned was that he had to forget about trying to impress his supervisors or elders, and to make sure that the students were comprehending what he was teaching. I agree with him about the necessity of a successfully taught lesson in the classroom. I also agree that flexibility, communication, reasonable actions, listening and a sense of humor are necessary in the classroom. All of those things are going to enhance the students learning, and make it more fun and more interesting for them to partake in classroom activities. The usage of technology is definitely critical in today's teaching world, because the children now rely on technology so much, and it is what they are interested in using and learning about.

Week 4 Post

Response to: The Benefit of Podcasting in the Classroom
This video podcast focuses on the group of children called the millennials, which is the children born after 1980, who have had consistent technology in their lives. Video podcasting can help with differentiation in the classroom or with singled-out help. It can often be extremely helpful in the classroom when students are absent and need the information presented in class the day that they missed. Podcasting can also help with generating debate for students to think about and respond to.
Many teachers use podcasts in the classroom in order to enhance the lesson and make it more interesting for the students. It helps students o expand their imagination, and they are able to see themselves accomplishing things, and learning by watching their own podcasts. It helps the students to use their higher learning skills and to engage their minds to the fullest. It also helps keeps the parents involved, by having video podcasting available for viewing.

Week 3 Post ( Podcast)

Response to Smartboard Lessons Podcast
I think podcasts are great ways to learn and record ideas, instead of reading them or writing them down. I like how this guy makes a podcast where ever he is. I took a look at the website he talks about in one of his podcasts ( http://bit.ly/8WWHTl ) and it was cool. The website shows a new way to interact with others using sticky notes. It was really cool to see and play with the website. I am thinking about creating an account myself.

Response to KidCast
I agree with the speaker from the KidCast podcast. He made some very valid points
regarding video podcasting. Podcasting can be used to a much greater extent when there is
video involved. Visual aids can be used, expressions can be seen and the person can get a point
across so much easier because the viewer can hear as well as see what they are trying to view.
Though video podcasting has its down points, such as editing, I think it is very beneficial,
especially in the classroom.

Response to MacBreak Weekly
The podcast on the iPad from Apple, was very informative. The iPad is such amazing, and
the newest technology. It is a combination of the Macbook and the iPhone or the iTouch. It has
the touchscreen like that of the iPhone and the iTouch, but it has the speed and the capabilities
of a Macbook. Though the speakers in the podcast were unsure of whether they liked the name,
iPad or not, but I like the name iPad for the new device.

Response to This Week in Photography
The topic in This Week in Photography was "Is face detection racist?". The speakers were
talking about the new features of digital cameras. Apparently Asians are always blinking, and
darker skin tones are not recognized, according the the new technology on these cameras. I do
not think that the technology is racist. I agree with the speakers that the error was just a lack
in running tests with many different varieties of people. The producers should have run more
thorough testing on the cameras before the cameras were released to the public.

Week 2 Post

Response to: A Vision of Students Today
This video shows a college student's everyday life. College life for most is more fun and laid back than high school. Just because you're not in school 40 hours a week in college, you still spend more time working on school work or doing something that relates to school. I would say this video explains my life pretty well.
How is technology really helping us if we spend more time doing things that take away time from what we should be doing? Well, as a student I have to know and plan how much time I spend playing around on the computer (Facebook, games, and other activities) and how much time I spend doing work for class. I think technology is helping us as a society, but only if we use it correctly and use our time wisely.

Response to: It's Not about Technology
Mrs. Hines has some great points about technology in her article. What is the point of all this technology if know one knows how to use it? Teachers must be able to use this technology to spark the minds of these students. All these new tools in technology are changing the way students think about school. Most students want to learn how to use the smart board (fancy whiteboards), because it is something fun, and while doing this they are learning. Just like Mrs. Hines said, teachers need to be up-to-date with there students, and this is a key part in teaching in a way the students can learn.
I wish my high school teacher would have learned how to use the technology and made learning fun. Today, for a teacher, there is no excuse for not learning the new technology because there are so many ways to learn this new technology. Most schools or school systems will pay for the teachers to go to the class and learn how to use it. The technology would be great if all the teacher would learn how to use it correctly, and apply it while teaching.

Response to: Is it Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
Mr. Fisch has some very valid points about the necessity of technology literacy of teachers in schools. There is more new technology being developed every day, and students are going to be some of the first to be interested in it. It is crucial that teachers get on board in the technology realm and use the new technology to its greatest potential. Students are so much more interested in learning if they are getting to learn by way of exciting new technology that they may not otherwise have access to. If teachers take the initiative to go out and learn how to use new technology, the students will come out of school being technologically literate, which is becoming more and more necessary in the real world.
I was fortunate enough to grow up in an area that had access to the newest and latest technology. However, I feel like if my teachers had been more interested in the technology themselves and taken the time to learn how to use it more efficiently, I would have been more interested in learning when I was younger. The technology could be so influential in a child's life if teachers took some time to learn it themselves.

Response to: Gary's Social Media Count
It is so amazing to see a count of the numerous technological interactions going on across the world in a matter of seconds. It shows that as a teacher I will have to be paying attention to and keeping up with the constant changes in the technological world. Children and teenagers are right in the middle of all this new technology. Because of the constantly changing technological world, I will have to learn and use the new technology as it comes. Students in this time rely so much on technology, and by teaching in a way that engages this technology, I think I will be able to reach their minds at a whole new level.
As a future teacher in a constantly changing and improving world, I will have to reform the ways of teaching in the past. Teaching can never be a constant method because with each new school year there are new students, new needs and new technology. I will have to change my teaching methods depending on each student, because each child learns in a different way, and technology is a wonderful tool that can often times enhance learning for children.

Week One Post

Response to Did You Know 3.0

This video was really good to watch and see how technology has evolved over time. When it asked the question "Did You Know?", I was not aware that things have changed this much. I guess I have not paid much attention to technology since I have grown up with technology all around me.
I find a lot of the information that this video gives us scary, for example, the 32 to second mark where it states that China will soon be the number one English speaking country. This video really shows how technology is changing for the good. How do we prepare people for jobs that do not exist yet? Overall I like the video, I found it very informative.

Response to Mr. Winkle Wake

Just like "Did You Know 3.0" I like how Mr. Winkle saw everything advanced in technology that was for the good of the people and to help raise the stander of living. All of these new devices have improved how people work and live now.
When Mr. Winkle goes to the school and he says that nothing has changed over the years, but I think they have. I used a computer every day in middle and high school, and today in college I use new technology. To tell you the truth there are kids that go to elementary school that use more technology everyday than I do, and I plan on teaching these kids one day. Maybe five or ten years ago this video would have made a good point about technology in schools.
I believe that teachers need to be more advanced with the technology like doctors offices and other professionals in society. Students are becoming more advanced with technology, but a lot of the teachers are not. Teachers need to prepare their students for the future.

Response to Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
This was such a great speech. Mr. Robinson makes a really good point about how creativity is
shot down in schools at all levels. It will be my job as an educator to bring out the children's
creativity. Creativity in my opinion is how we find new and better ways to communicate with
each other, and to expand our knowledge.
Creativity makes learning fun, this allows the students to understand what is being taught.
Why punish a child for having to much energy. Like Mr. Robinson said, we have been told we cannot
do something because we cannot make a living doing it, but people dance, play sports, play music and
many other things and they still make a living. If we are not allow to show that we want to do
something, we would not have dancers, athletes, singers and actors. Creativity should be a key
element for teachers and students.

Response to Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
It is really cool to see how students are interacting with other students from around the world.
This is a wonderful class for high school students to learn how to interact with others, and to expand their creativity. The last video talked about how creativity isn't being used in schools and why it should. This video shows how creativity makes it easier to learn.
I like how the class allows the students to interact with others to enhance their people skills and learn how to communicate with others. These skills are key skills for having success in life, and these skills can bring schools and other people together from different backgrounds.
