Week 6 Post

Dr. Alice Christie Website
I viewed her digital media part of the website, it was very useful for teachers and students who are trying to use a movie maker or imovie for a project. There are many helpful resources for teacher trying to find or examples for projects. She give advice on digital cameras; what kind to buy, tips for taking pictures, and general tips and links for digital photography. Dr. Christie also has link for website about digital media, and projects ideas.
I think this is a great way to help students be creative. I love photography it is a good way to express your creative side. I think letting students use technology like digital media will helps students be more creative.

iTunes U
itunes U is a new part of itunes the help educators find educational tools for the classroom. It has games, music, videos, and podcast. All these are helpful for teachers in many ways, like giving games for pre-school age and low school kids. Teachers can upload podcast, videocast, games that might help the student understand the lesson. Upper level teacher can add class lectures, notes and audio recording of the class to itunes for students who missed class.
This new technology is helpful for students who do not learn well by sitting in lecture all day or miss a day due to an illness. This could allow some college to make all or most of the course online and allow they to pre-record the lecture let the students listen throughout the semester, this could cut cost for students and universities. iTunes U is changing the way we learn and teach.

iPods
In this article on this website, http://bit.ly/bmQXGL (http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/news/2004/07/64282) ,Duke University has given every freshmen (1,650) ipods to promote technology at the university. Duke is preloading freshmen orientation information, an academic calendar, and the fight song. Duke students will be able to download course content, lecture, and foreign language lesson.
Duke will do the project for a year, then see what affect it has had one the freshmen and the their academic. Some other people say that the ipods are upload with the students classes, and show how to get using the map feature on the ipods. I wish South Alabama would consider using this technology. If they want us to be able to use this technology in our classroom, they should prepare us, for what they are using and maybe considering using the the schools. I can only hope that South Alabama would think about using this type technology in the classroom to prepare us for when we start teaching.

  1. Hi, this is a good post. On my blog for Alice Christie, I also chose her topic on photography! I hope to incorporate it somehow with little kids.

  2. I don't think USA will ever give away iPods but they might raise fees and provide them (or iPads or portables) that way. I am a fan of getting the tools into the hands of the users, whether in school or college. Any age.

Think about ways that you could help make this happen at South! An excellent project!
