Week 7 Post

How We Dream
I really enjoyed these two videos. It is so convenient for us as students to do research without stepping a foot in the library. I do not have time to go spend hours in the library for one research paper or project, so having these resources on the internet makes project easier. I agree with what he said throughout the video about the changing world, and the necessity of having people on board.
In part two of his video podcast he talked about the ways that he has begun to see the media of the world change from paper documents to wed documents. He was extremely correct when he said that the humanities, the science, and the technology people have to work together in order to make the world not only more technologically advanced but "green" in the process.
I think that I am prepared to handle the technology in my classroom. Although I feel like I know all of the technology that is currently in the classroom, I think that I will constantly have to be updating my knowledge of technology. Technology is going to continue to change forever, and in order to continue to be up-to-date with it in the classroom, teachers will have to continue to learn new things about technology.

The Networked Student
This was a very interesting video concerning student networking. It is amazing how many ways there are to learn and make connections other than in the classroom with a teacher lecturing all day. I think that I would find a class more interesting if there was a broader selection of ways I could learn. I think that although there are so many more ways to learn now, I think that a teacher is definitely necessary in the classroom. There needs to be a person in charge of the classroom supervising the students in their learning.
I think that Ms. Drexler will be successful in her class if she decides to try it in the fall. I am ready to be in a classroom and to be teaching students. I am also ready to be in a classroom that is technology friendly, and that my students can learn in. I think that it is a cool idea to have networked students, however it would take some training as a teacher, and some practice in order to learn how to teacher students in this way.
Now that the world is becoming so intertwined with technology, it is so necessary to embrace that technology, and to use it to the fullest. I know that my students will have a technologically inclined classroom and that I will do my best to teach them in a successful way. With the use of so much technology and so many sources I may eventually be able to offer a networked students class as well. I think that students would take well to the idea, as long as I know how to teach them.

Video by Michael Wesch
I listened and watched this video and I had no idea what it was talking about. I tried to pay attention, and I thought I did but at the end of the video I had no idea what I had just watched.

I using delicious to follow a few other people and sites for my education needs. Week 6 Post

Dr. Alice Christie Website
I viewed her digital media part of the website, it was very useful for teachers and students who are trying to use a movie maker or imovie for a project. There are many helpful resources for teacher trying to find or examples for projects. She give advice on digital cameras; what kind to buy, tips for taking pictures, and general tips and links for digital photography. Dr. Christie also has link for website about digital media, and projects ideas.
I think this is a great way to help students be creative. I love photography it is a good way to express your creative side. I think letting students use technology like digital media will helps students be more creative.
Here is her link: http://www.alicechristie.org/

iTunes U
itunes U is a new part of itunes the help educators find educational tools for the classroom. It has games, music, videos, and podcast. All these are helpful for teachers in many ways, like giving games for pre-school age and low school kids. Teachers can upload podcast, videocast, games that might help the student understand the lesson. Upper level teacher can add class lectures, notes and audio recording of the class to itunes for students who missed class.
This new technology is helpful for students who do not learn well by sitting in lecture all day or miss a day due to an illness. This could allow some college to make all or most of the course online and allow they to pre-record the lecture let the students listen throughout the semester, this could cut cost for students and universities. iTunes U is changing the way we learn and teach.

iPods
In this article on this website, http://bit.ly/bmQXGL (http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/news/2004/07/64282) ,Duke University has given every freshmen (1,650) ipods to promote technology at the university. Duke is preloading freshmen orientation information, an academic calendar, and the fight song. Duke students will be able to download course content, lecture, and foreign language lesson.
Duke will do the project for a year, then see what affect it has had one the freshmen and the their academic. Some other people say that the ipods are upload with the students classes, and show how to get using the map feature on the ipods. I wish South Alabama would consider using this technology. If they want us to be able to use this technology in our classroom, they should prepare us, for what they are using and maybe considering using the the schools. I can only hope that South Alabama would think about using this type technology in the classroom to prepare us for when we start teaching.

Week 5 Post

Resonse to: NPR New Blog and WIRED
When Virgil Griffith came up with the WikiScanner that is able to trace and find out the people who edit information on Wikipedia, there was a lot revealed about the people that edit information on Wikipedia. People are taking advantage of the capabilities given to them by the Wikipedia encyclopedia. Many companies, politicians, corporations and just regular people are often times submitting false information, or deleting offensive information about themselves. Now because of the WikiScanner, they are able to be traced bak to the computer that the information was edited on and identified, in hopes that people will be more reluctant to change or submit falsified information. I think that it is wrong of people, businesses and politicians to change demeaning information, or to put in false information. I believe that the WikiScanner is going to make the people think before they just submit what ever information they want, because once the public can see it traced back to them, it will create a problem.

Response to: "What I've Learned This Year" by Mr. McClung
In Mr.McClung's first year of teaching he learned many things. One of the most important things that he learned was that he had to forget about trying to impress his supervisors or elders, and to make sure that the students were comprehending what he was teaching. I agree with him about the necessity of a successfully taught lesson in the classroom. I also agree that flexibility, communication, reasonable actions, listening and a sense of humor are necessary in the classroom. All of those things are going to enhance the students learning, and make it more fun and more interesting for them to partake in classroom activities. The usage of technology is definitely critical in today's teaching world, because the children now rely on technology so much, and it is what they are interested in using and learning about.

Week 4 Post

Response to: The Benefit of Podcasting in the Classroom
This video podcast focuses on the group of children called the millennials, which is the children born after 1980, who have had consistent technology in their lives. Video podcasting can help with differentiation in the classroom or with singled-out help. It can often be extremely helpful in the classroom when students are absent and need the information presented in class the day that they missed. Podcasting can also help with generating debate for students to think about and respond to.
Many teachers use podcasts in the classroom in order to enhance the lesson and make it more interesting for the students. It helps students o expand their imagination, and they are able to see themselves accomplishing things, and learning by watching their own podcasts. It helps the students to use their higher learning skills and to engage their minds to the fullest. It also helps keeps the parents involved, by having video podcasting available for viewing.
